Having a first aid kit for your pet is an important part of emergency preparation. Prompt first aid can stabilize your pet, reduce pain and discomfort and having a well-stocked kit will give you peace of mind in an emergency. Many of the items you have in your family first aid kit can be used for pets too. The following is a list of necessary items to include:

🐾Phone number, clinic name, address of your veterinarian PLUS a list of your pet’s medications
🐾Absorbent gauze pads
🐾Adhesive tape
🐾Elastic bandage
🐾Muzzle (NOT to be used if your pet is vomiting)
🐾Cotton swabs
🐾Fresh 3% hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting if recommended by your veterinarian or poison control, NOT for wounds
🐾Ice pack
🐾Disposable gloves
🐾Scissors with blunt end to cut fur around wounds
🐾Tweezers to remove ticks, splinters
🐾Over-the-counter antibiotic ointment
🐾Liquid dishwashing detergent for bathing PLUS towels
🐾Oral syringe to give medication or flush a wound
🐾Styptic powder or pencil for bleeding (not deep wounds)
🐾Saline eye solution can be used as an eye wash and for wound cleansing
